About Serenity

All the memories I have are beautiful in my mind, but they don't feed the hunger deep inside my soul.

Rooftop Prince OST – 상처 (Hurt) by 알리 (Ali)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmBXNjIE638

Not sure what to say except the the K-drama Rooftop Prince was such an amazing show to watch. I have to say I was quite inspired. However I was more inspired by this song. Hurt by Ali is a featured song within the show. And to be honest I felt the passion behind the lyrics, though today was the first time I listened to the song and read along with the English translated lyrics. It’s such a clear representation about the feelings I’ve had in my own little heart for awhile now. And the one part of the song, “When I meet you, I can tell you now that I longed for you. I long for you so that I couldn’t forget you.” I can’t begin to describe how I’ve finally found the lyrics to describe my feelings. And perhaps this is a horrible type of confession, but heh, it’s 1 in morning. And I’ve been feeling a little odd the last couple of days with the random thoughts in my head and my dreams. Life huh, all about the little thoughts that drive you crazy, hmmm?

ClockworkJungles ~ Handcrafted Steampunk Jewelry

So a few months ago there was this awesome con on my campus. It’s an annual con that happens every year and my favorite part is seeing what the vendors create. I love handcrafted jewelry because over half the time … Continue reading

Rib-Cage Art

Rib-Cage Art

I support the arts a lot here in my city, if it hasn’t already been seen through my various other posts. But from time to time I’ll go to the Greensboro Cultural Center, and check out the various art exhibits from local photographers, African-American artists, Native-American artists, and much more.

I was roaming through one exhibit which was a pretty amazing exhibit, I would have taken more pictures but I didn’t want to get caught. But there was one section of the exhibit I absolutely fell in love with. This artist had constructed little body-part pieces which looked like little pendants followed with a line of words at the top. But this was my favorite piece. For some reason I just love the way it looks.

But if you’re ever in GSO, you definately need to go visit the Cultural Center downtown.

My Summer Read: Jane Hirshfield’s “Come, Thief”

I plan to read Jane Hirshfield’s “Come, Thief” for my summer read. I’m excited since I love poetry and I’m a fan of great poems and quotes, and sometimes a girl just needs to take a break from work and class. Hopefully it’ll be a great book to read pool side!! I’ll let you know what I think of it after I finish!

Book Overview from Amazon:
A revelatory, indispensable collection of poems from Jane Hirshfield that centers on beauty, time, and the full embrace of an existence that time cannot help but steal from our arms.

Hirshfield is unsurpassed in her ability to sink into a moment’s essence and exchange something of herself with its finite music—and then, in seemingly simple, inevitable words, to deliver that exchange to us in poems that vibrate with form and expression perfectly united. Hirshfield’s poems of discovery, acknowledgment of the difficult, and praise turn always toward deepening comprehension. Here we encounter the stealth of feeling’s arrival (“as some strings, untouched, / sound when a near one is speaking. / So it was when love slipped inside us”), an anatomy of solitude (“wrong solitude vinegars the soul, / right solitude oils it”), a reflection on perishability and the sweetness its acceptance invites into our midst (“How suddenly then / the strange happiness took me, / like a man with strong hands and strong mouth”), and a muscular, unblindfolded awareness of our shared political and planetary fate.

To read these startlingly true poems is to find our own feelings eloquently ensnared. Whether delving into intimately familiar moments or bringing forward some experience until now outside words, Hirshfield finds for each face of our lives its metamorphosing portrait, its particular, memorable, singing and singular name.

Basket made from Woven Recycled Paper

Basket made from Woven Recycled Paper

I really thought this was cool. A basket made out of recycled paper from I believe China, though when looking at some of the paper woven in it, it looked more Korean based. I keep meaning to buy one but every time I go to Bed, Bath & Beyond, I always seem to forget my card or have no cash on me. But I swear I’ll get one, I believe the price is $10. Though my only thought is I know it’s supposed to be a wastebasket, but I don’t know if I should use it as a wastebasket it’s just too colorful. Hmmm. I’ll think of something, I’m trying to brighten up my new apartment space for the summer and with little things like this it’ll be just the pop of color I need.

DANTE CK- “Slow & Steady” Featuring Leia Sadiku

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7EyaBKRfFjM

I really enjoyed this music video, and I admit I listen to it a lot. I love the message in this song and Dante CK has other great songs as well. My two other favorites come from his “Petals” album, “L i m e Light” and “Gifted + Lifted”. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Dante CK live as well as Leia Sadiku. I just think it’s important to support local talent as well as your peers literally. Pretty cool to say I went to college with them!

Check Dante CK out at his Bandcamp and Youtube page:
